Band Keratopathy

What's going on?

Long standing grumbling eye disease can result in deposits of calcium
forming in the cornea (the clear window at the front of the eye).
Gradually, vision is reduced by these white corneal deposits.
Sometimes this can occur in eyes without any know pathology.

What will my ophthalmologist see?

There will be a band of white across the middle of the cornea extending horizontally.

What will my ophthalmologist do for me?

Firstly we will undertake a thorough examination to find out if there
is an underlying problem. If the disorder affects vision, the calcium
can be removed by an operation.

What do I need to know?

The calcium deposition can be removed but will recur if the underlying pathology is not addressed.
