Toric Trifocal Case Study

A 69 year young lady came to see me with reduced vision in both eyes due to cataracts.  She was keen to have the cataracts removed but also wanted to achieve good intermediate and near vision.  She was not bothered about getting some glare with her vision.  She also had a significant amount of astigmatism (rugby ball shape of the cornea) which meant that ordinary cataract surgery would still leave her reliant on spectacles.  She was also very short sighted.

After out consultation we elected to proceed with bilateral cataract surgery with TORIC TRIFOCAL intraocular lenses.

She underwent uncomplicated surgery using my state of the art equipment and she achieved excellent vision for both distance and near.

Her vision was 6/6 (20:20 / perfect) in each eye and she reads N5 (small newspaper print), all without spectacles!

She has ended up amazing and this is what I aim for.  I cannot always achieve this but I give it my best shot.

She has told us that it was “absolutely life transforming”.  It makes me so happy to hear that and is the reason I do this.

For my optometry colleagues her refraction post-op was right eye -0.5DS left eye plano, no reading add required.

Her optician emailed to say:   “Delighted to have sent you this lady and she is understandably thrilled with her result. Thank you so much.”
