Toric Premium Lens to Correct Astigmatism

JM is a 57 year old lady who presented to Mr Alwitry with reduced vision in both eyes due to cataract.  She had cataract in both eyes but also significant astigmatism of approximately 2.5 in each eye.  She elected to undergo NHS cataract surgery in her right eye with a monofocal lens. The operation was carried out successfully but she was disappointed with her vision without spectacles on.  She could only read the fourth line down on the vision chart (6/18). 

She elected to go privately for her second eye and had a toric lens (designed to remove astigmatism) in her left eye.  She underwent successful cataract surgery with computer assisted alignment of her toric lens.

She achieved 6/5 vision (the bottom line on the chart and one line better than perfect 6/6 (20/20) vision) without spectacles on.

She now notices a massive difference between the two eyes with much sharper and a higher definition vision in the eye which had the toric lens in.

In retrospect she would have liked to have a toric lens in her first eye.
